History and Plans
My name is Iain MacKeith and I have been riding, racing, and exploring the world on bikes since I was 10 years old.
I started sixty four cycles unofficially in 2020 with custom steel frames during my last year in high school. While pursuing an undegraduate degree in mechanical engineering at Georgia Tech, I became interested in composites and spent as much time as I could learning manufacturing techniques. Over the past four years, I have narrowed down my processes to balance performance, flexibility, and process costs. I am driven by continuous process improvement.
Since graduation, I have worked as a satellite solar array engineer. Our solar arrays use high-strain composites, giving me a completely different outlook on what is possible with fabric and resin.
The purpose of sixty four cycles is to allow me to continue my exploration of composites manufacturing and tech development in the cycling industry. sixty four cycles exists to push what we should look for in performance bicycles and support juniors in their path to the next steps.
Long term, I am interested in developing processes to further automate bicycle part manufacturing with ATP. I am also interested in developing processes that utilize skilled labor and automation to manufacture market-competitive children's bikes in the US. More families should be able to afford bikes that last and that kids are actually excited to ride.
